Under the wing
An Augmented Reality crow tour guide
Inspired by game jams, an ideation theme was revealed during a live webinar.
After the theme was revealed, I experimented with rapid ideation techniques which led to the Under the Wing concept.
I created and presented a simple paper prototype of the idea at the end of the module.
Theme reveal
During a live webinar, the ideation theme was revealed to be a Dixit card featuring what appeared to be a crow dressed as a priest.
Ideation
After the theme was revealed, I experiemented with different ideation techniques. This included brainstorming, which uncovered lots of ideas that could have been worth exploring further. The idea I decided to pursue was the crow tour guide.
An alternative to passwords
After deciding to pursue the crow tour guide, I explored it further by sketching out my ideas. I thought that perhaps an app version of a travel guide could feature a virtual crow friend who might point out interesting facts and features.
I became interested in mobile app onboarding processes and security. Like a lot of people, I struggle to remember all of the passwords I have for the various services I’ve signed up for (Nielsen 1995). When people start writing down difficult passwords to aid memory, it can undermine the entire point (Nielsen 2000).
While researching crow behaviour, I found out that they can be trained to recognise human faces. This led to a crow-themed facial recognition log in idea.
A crow-themed log in idea is quite specific and therefore is likely to have limited uses cases. However, it would be interesting in future to learn more about and explore security patterns that do not require users to remember a password.
